2. MODULE DESCRIPTION/OVERVIEW
(A short paragraph describing what the module is about)
This module is designed to equip the student to provide primary health care to well children and adolescents. The module will provide an overview of growth and development from infancy to adolescence, with an emphasis on developmental risks and opportunities throughout childhood. Students will also focus on common pediatric health care concerns, including the provision of nutritional and breast feeding advice, immunization guidance, promotion of healthy habits, safety promotion and injury prevention, and it aims to prepare students to care for children from infancy to adolescence who enter the health care system with illness, injury, or congenital conditions. The emphasis will be on an integrated approach to the management of these childhood conditions, as well as the requisite knowledge and skills to provide developmentally appropriate care to sick children and their families.
