AIMS OF THE MODULE

­­­­­ The aims of this course are the following:

1.      To introduce students to the historical and religious contexts of the Bible.

2.      To give an overview of the main parts of the Old Testament(the

, Prophets and Wisdom Writings).

LEARNING OUTCOMES

1.      To explain the historical and religious contexts of the Pentateuch, Prophets, Wisdom  Writings as well as the background of the New Testament Gospels, Acts, Epistolary writings and Apocalyptic literature.

2.      To make a critical reading of the above mentioned books as literary and religious documents

3.      To raise awareness of the relationship, continuity and discontinuity between the Old Testament and New Testament.

4.      Use biblical texts as resources to address theological and some social issues.

5.      Demonstrate how biblical traditions have been interpreted and lived out in churches today.
